Two new projects are coming to Disney's BoardWalk Resort at Walt Disney World, according to recent filings in the Central Florida Tourism Oversight District public database. The projects, named "Project Amazon" and "Project Bubbles", are set to transform two previously vacant locations on the resort's promenade.
Project Amazon will take over the former Big River Grille & Brewing Works, a space that has been empty since the restaurant closed in January 2024. Disney has previously hinted at a new concept for this location, but no official announcement has been made yet. The presence of a full kitchen setup in the former Big River Grille suggests that a food and beverage replacement is the most likely outcome, although the exact nature of the new concept remains a mystery.
Project Bubbles, on the other hand, will be located in the former Promenade Fine Art Gallery, which closed in October 2025. The name "Project Bubbles" invites speculation about the possible nature of the new venture. A bath and body retail concept or a champagne bar or lounge could be a natural fit for this location.
These new projects come as part of a recent trend of closures at Disney's BoardWalk Resort. Beyond the Big River Grille, Jellyrolls, and the Promenade Fine Art Gallery, the west side of the promenade has been noticeably lacking in options. The presence of two active permit filings and a third space being gutted suggests that something significant is in the works.
However, it's important to remember that project names in CFTOD filings are often deliberately vague or misleading. While they can offer clues, they should not be taken at face value. As we await further announcements from Disney, it's clear that the resort is undergoing some exciting changes that will shape its future offerings.
